How is coronavirus spread between people?

Because it's a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person, but similar viruses spread by cough droplets. The novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China and a UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus:

  • Germs can live on some surfaces for many hours.
  • To protect yourself and others, always carry tissues with you and use them to catch a cough or sneeze.
  • Bin the tissue.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • This is the best way to slow the spread of almost any germs, including the coronavirus.
