Supporting people affected by cardiomyopathy

Support group leader

Our support groups give people diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and their loved ones the opportunity to find out more about their condition and to grow their support network. Our support groups enjoy regular meetings, with a mix of expert guest speakers and a strong community focus.

The aim of the Support Group Leader is to organise 6 meetings a year, with a range of guest speakers tailored to the needs of the group. You will receive full online training and continued support from the charity’s Community Peer Support Manager.

Heart to heart support volunteer

Our heart to heart network matches people diagnosed with cardiomyopathy (or people supporting someone diagnosed with cardiomyopathy) with trained Heart to Heart Support Volunteers for one-to-one peer support over the phone.

The aim of the Heart to Heart Volunteer is to act as a kind, empathetic ear and to help the client by sharing their own experiences of living with cardiomyopathy. The role works on an ad-hoc basis, depending on the needs of the client/s requesting heart to heart support. You will receive full online training and continued support from the charity’s Community Peer Support Manager.

Youth panel member

Our Youth Panel are a group of young people aged 14-25 who each have their own unique experience of cardiomyopathy or myocarditis. They use their insight and empathy to help us to improve the information and support we offer to under 25s. The Youth Panel meet virtually four times a year and in between those times offer online and telephone support to other young people, as well as working on projects such as: transition support from children to adult services; social media promotion; event planning; and resource creation. Change Maker

Help us fight for better care and treatment. Change Makers improve the lives of people affected by cardiomyopathy by influencing people in the NHS to implement better cardiomyopathy policies. Just by talking to their local clinicians and joining discussions with other organisations, Change Makers help change healthcare services. Only with the help and voices of people affected by cardiomyopathy will we be able to improve healthcare services. Meet our Change Makers

Fundraising

Cheer point volunteer

The roar of the crowd really does help our Team Cardio runners over the finish line. We're looking for volunteers to give a big cheer to our runners at events like the London Marathon, Great North Run, Cardiff Half Marathon and Royal Parks Half Marathon. The atmosphere at these events is simply incredible and you'll have a fantastic day soaking up the buzz of positivity around you. We'll provide you with all the information you need, along with branded t-shirts and materials, so that your cheer point can stand out from the crowd.

London Marathon post-race reception volunteer

We hold a post-race reception at the London Marathon to give our runners a big round of applause after they cross the finish line. We’re looking for volunteers to help us with setting up the event, stewarding and greeting runners from the finish line. If you’re interested in event management or simply want to be part of a fantastic celebration, enquire below or email fundraising@cardiomyopathy.org.

Office volunteer

Location: Amersham
This is a varied role which can be adapted to your skills and availability. It's a fantastic way to gain administrative or charity experience and an opportunity to work with our friendly staff team. This role may involve helping our fundraising team send out materials to our wonderful fundraisers, assisting with our social media or supplying information packs to GPs and hospitals.
